Day 4

Bryan is feeling better today, after a tough couple days of nausea and fatigue. Tater tots were not the godsend we expected them to be this time: however, rice (particularly chicken-fried rice) has worked out quite well. His heightened senses of hearing and smell continue, but they will fade as the nausea does. No unusually surprising aversions, other than dish soap. Tomorrow will probably be another day of fatigue, and we're hoping by Monday Bryan is beginning to feel like himself again. Despite the physical torment, he's remained characteristically upbeat, remembering that rather than symptoms of the disease, these are all side effects of the cure.

Good to hear that things are progressing along well. I just spoke with Adam Burke who tomorrow is running the Boston Marathon in what possibly may be a hurricane. Is he crazy or what?

Those goals in gym class can't help Adam now. Let's all hope he gets some good tailwind...

I was at the Marathon today, it was bad but could've been worse. Hey Bry, I'll make you a deal. We'll run Boston in 2009. That gives you time to recover and train and gives me time to drop a few (30) pounds.

I'm constantly inspired by just how tough both of you are - you obviously find strength in each other. It's Monday now and I hope the bouncing back has started. I'm sure Adam is eager to get back and post an update that you're feeling better. He survived Boston but not with the help of a tailwind - instead the garbage bag shirt was the key! No great movies to recommend, but if you haven't been watching the Planet Earth series on Discovery channel, it's pretty amazing (& educational!).

Hi Bryan and Jen,

This is Mike Ryan. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better and hope that you continue to do well. I know how much your family has helped us over the years and we would like to help you in anyway you need.
In my running, we (The Niskayuna Boys Track Team) have not had a meet yet this outdoor season, due to weather, but our first one is tomorrow, Wednesday. I'm running the 4x800, 3200, and 4x400. What a combination? During Cross Country and Indoor Track, my brother and I and some of our teammates went to Oregon and Maryland for Nike Nationals.
My brother and I have also decided on attending Bucknell in the fall. We spoke with Jen's dad back in October and this past weekend when we visited. He sounds extremely nice. My brother and I love the campus and hope that you and Jen can meet us there sometime.
I know that that was a little long, but I haven't seen or talked to you in a while, and wanted to wish you the best.

Mike

Dear Bryan-
Your mom has done a great job keeping those of us up north informed of your progress. Even though you and I have never met face-to-face, I know that there's no way parents as kind, generous, resilient and resourceful as yours could produce children who are any less so. Don't ever forget that you are brave and strong for going through this, even though it's not the path you would have chosen. I'm in the process of knitting caps for my father-in-law, who is currently battling leukemia, so if you need anything else for your head, just say the word! It's just remarkable that after years of working together, your mom and I are experiencing such similar journies with someone we love. Best wishes for a swift recovery and more than your share of good health in the future.
